Lac qui Parle WMA Draft Management Plan, 2024-2034

Please take this opportunity to review and provide your input on the draft Lac qui Parle WMA management plan, posted on the DNR's Lac qui Parle WMA website. Following this public review period, the DNR will revise the plan to address input received and release a final version of the plan.

Lac qui Parle WMA’s 33,500 acres comprise the largest contiguous block of public land in west-central Minnesota and include a state game refuge, a wildlife sanctuary, a waterfowl feeding and resting area, a duck sanctuary and a controlled hunting zone. The WMA is popular destination for anglers, hunters, trappers, and bird and wildlife watchers alike. The updated master plan will be used to guide management of the WMA's prairies and grasslands, wetlands, lakes, brushlands, shrubs and forests, and will include management goals, objectives, and strategies for the WMA throughout the next 10 years. The previous management plan for the area was developed in 1997. Significant changes in this current plan reflect: a greater emphasis on restoring and enhancing native plant communities and habitats and the wildlife populations and user groups they support; increased knowledge of the plants and wildlife of Lac qui Parle WMA; new and evolving management techniques; changing wildlife and public use of the area; and new challenges like invasive species and changing climate.
