Legislation from 2023 directed the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to convey land at Upper Sioux Agency State Park to the Upper Sioux Community. A critical component of this process is to enhance and/or create new outdoor recreational opportunities in the Minnesota River Valley. The DNR understands the importance of outdoor recreation in the region and is using public feedback to help guide next steps.
Through the summer and fall months of 2023, DNR implemented a public engagement process which invited people to share information about their use of Upper Sioux Agency State Park and their desires for meaningful outdoor recreation experiences in the area. Feedback was collected at in-person events and online. People identified a wide range of opportunities in the region. The ideas were refined through public workshops and stakeholder discussions.
