Keystone Woods WMA Public Input
Wildlife management areas (WMAs) are part of Minnesota's outdoor recreation system and are established to protect those lands and waters that have a high potential for wildlife production, public hunting, trapping, fishing, and other compatible recreational uses. They are the backbone to DNR's wildlife management efforts in Minnesota and are key to protecting wildlife habitat for future generations, providing citizens with opportunities for hunting, fishing and wildlife watching, and promoting important wildlife-based tourism in the state. Today there are over 1.3 million acres of high-quality habitat in over 1,500 WMAs located throughout the state, making it one of the best and largest WMA systems in the country.
Keystone Woods WMA is a developing 1,820-acre WMA located in Washington County that contains a variety of landscapes, including woods, wetlands, prairie, grasslands, and small lakes. Because of its large size and proximity to the Twin Cities metro area, Keystone Woods WMA offers a unique opportunity for the DNR to design a WMA with benefits to people who enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Keystone Woods WMA has the potential to offer expanded amenities and opportunities that are not typically available at other WMAs. The purpose of this questionnaire is to collect your input on what amenities and opportunities you’d like to see at Keystone Woods WMA in the future.
