WMA/AMA Planning for the Tallgrass Aspen Parklands
Thank you for your interest in the development of landscape-level plans for Minnesota's Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Aquatic Management Areas (AMAs). These plans will guide habitat management, public use, conservation priorities, and long-term stewardship across Minnesota’s diverse landscapes.
The following questionnaire is specific to WMAs and AMAs that are located within the Tallgrass Aspen Parklands ecological province. Feedback gathered through this questionnaire will be used to help inform the content of the WMA/AMA plan for the Tallgrass Aspen Parklands.
The Tallgrass Aspen Parklands ecological province is located in Minnesota's far northwestern corner, stretching from around Thief River Falls and Roseau up toward the Canadian border. The landscape is defined by its diverse mixture of prairie, woodland, brushland, and wetland habitats, making it an important area for the long-term habitat conservation and the associated hunting, trapping, angling, birdwatching, and related outdoor activities.
The Tallgrass Aspen Parklands ecological province contains 93 WMAs and 1 AMA, covering a total of 332,483 acres and 77 acres, respectively. Nearly 40% of this total acreage comes from the two major units found in this province: Roseau River WMA (75,206 acres) and Thief Lake WMA (54,957 acres).
